Why this week’s poster
I wanted to see the joins.
Most letterforms hide their construction.
This one shows every seam.
Modular parts.
Curved sections and straight runs.
Chrome couplings holding them in place.
The word wrote itself: Assembled.
Nothing hidden. Nothing smoothed over.
The Build
- Objects. Orange plastic tube segments in two profiles: straight runs and quarter curves. Chrome ferrule couplings at every join.
- Letters. Each glyph broken down into the minimum number of parts. Curves resolved with the quarter modules. Terminals cut flat.
- Colour. Saturated orange for the body. Polished chrome for the couplings. Black ground.
- Lighting. Hard key from upper left. Tight specular on the metal collars. Soft bounce to keep the orange from crushing.
- Texture. Slight satin sheen on the plastic. Brushed banding on the chrome. Micro-shadow at every seam.
- Type. No supporting type on this one. The letterforms carry the whole page.
What worked
- The couplings do double duty 〰 structural and decorative.
- Orange on black holds at thumbnail size.
- The repeated modules build rhythm without effort.
What I’d push next time
- Fewer letters. A single word at scale, not a full grid.
- A variant with the couplings recessed rather than proud.
- Test the system with a lowercase set.
